このユニットは、すべての4年生が受けられるわけではない。学年末のペーパー試験と臨床試験をパスしないと受けることができない。これにたどり着くことが、卒業前のひとつの目標になる。

Content
This is an eight-week capstone unit starting in Year 4, Semester 2 in rotation for 240 students at a time and flows through to the end of the year. It consists of two blocks (Transition to Internship, which includes clinical shadowing placements in internal medicine, general surgery and emergency medicine; and, Extension, which is a student choice or remediation attachment). Students are expected to apply the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes gained in previous Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4 learning within their clinical rotations.
Outcomes
Students are able to (1) demonstrate professional behaviour with, and respect for, the care of people presenting with medical conditions; (2) demonstrate effective history, examination and presentation skills when working with people presenting with medical conditions; (3) discuss principles of autonomy and risk management for people presenting with medical conditions; (4) discuss the role of the doctor as coordinator in the team caring for people presenting with medical conditions; (5) demonstrate ability to work with other medical and allied health professionals in a multidisciplinary healthcare team setting; (6) apply a holistic approach to patients (considering them as people not diseases); (7) discuss ideal handling of patient complaints and feedback; (8) demonstrate a working knowledge of the historical, geographical, sociocultural and clinical context of health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in the context of medical conditions; (9) discuss application of personalised medicine in the context of delivery of care to people presenting with medical conditions; (10) discuss the assessment of people presenting with medical conditions; (11) define iatrogenesis in the context of treatment of medical conditions; (12) demonstrate the ability to educate patients and their families on issues related to their ongoing health care; (13) discuss and demonstrate evidence-based medical practice; and (14) apply, analyse and evaluate scientific principles in medical practice.
Assessment
Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) Transition to Internship in-training assessment; (2) Extension in-training assessment; (3) Transition to Internship professional behaviour and attendance assessment; and (4) Extension professional behaviour and attendance assessment. Supplementary assessment is available for those students who obtain a mark of 45 to 49 inclusive in this unit.
